The best concentrated perfume oil suppliers let you buy a small sample of the exact oil and grade you would order in bulk, and at Aroma Labs that is a 10 ml sample for AED 45 (about USD 12), with no minimum order on in stock oils afterwards. Test each sample on a paper strip, on skin and in your own base at your planned strength, let the blend rest, and only then order 100 ml, 500 ml or a kilo.
This guide covers what a good sample policy looks like, a simple test plan you can run at home or in your workshop, and what to ask before you scale up. It is written for perfume brands and makers in the US, UK, EU, GCC, India and Australia.

What a good sample policy looks like
A sample is only useful if it tells you what the bulk order will smell like. Before you pay for samples from any supplier, check these points:
- Same oil, same grade: the sample should be the exact oil and grade you would buy in bulk, not a weaker tester version. Our oils are 100% concentrate with no DPG and no fixatives, in samples and in bulk.
- Enough to make a real test batch: a 10 ml sample is enough for a few small trial blends, not just one sniff.
- A clear price: the sample price should be listed on the product page. Ours is AED 45 for 10 ml on each oil.
- Documents for the same oil: ask for the IFRA certificate, SDS and COA of the oil you are sampling, so you know it fits your product type before you commit.
- A simple path to bulk: once a sample passes, you should be able to order the next size up without a large minimum.
How to test fragrance oil samples
Run the same tests on every sample so you can compare them fairly. Keep notes for each one.
| Test | How to do it | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| First smell | Dip a paper strip and smell it straight away | Does the opening match what you expected? |
| Dry down | Smell the same strip again after a few hours and the next day | Do the heart and base notes stay pleasant and close to the scent you want? |
| Test blend | Mix a small batch in your own base at your planned strength | Clarity, colour and smell once blended |
| Rest | Close the test bottle and leave it somewhere cool and dark for a few days | Does the blend smell rounder or change after resting? |
| Wear | Spray the rested blend on skin and wear it through a normal day | Longevity and projection in real use |
| Side by side | Compare two or three samples of the same scent style together | Which one you and your customers prefer |
For the strength to use in your test blend, see our guide on how much fragrance oil goes in perfume. If you are new to reading a scent over time, our post on top, middle and base notes explains what changes on the strip. Our oils work in alcohol based perfumes, so you do not need to add a fixative to your test blend.
Before you scale up
When a sample passes, ask the supplier for the IFRA certificate, SDS and COA for that oil, and check that the IFRA limits cover your product type. Our post on whether fragrance oils are skin safe explains how to read them.
Then step up in size. A 100 ml or 500 ml pack suits a first small batch, and a kilo makes sense once a scent sells. Our guide to buying perfume oil by the kilo shows how the pack prices compare. If you do not know where to start, sample a few oils from our best sellers.
Remember that we supply fragrance oils only. Perfumer's alcohol, carrier oils and bottles come from your local suppliers.
